Yam root has been cultivated as an agricultural crop and eaten in many
cultures for centuries. Originally a native of Atlantic north and central
America the wild yam root (Dioscorea villosa) from the
Dioscoraceae family can now be found all over the world. Whereby the wild yam
root from Mexico is of particular importance.
In 1942 the explorer Russell Marker from the USA, discovered that the wild
Mexican yam root is exceptionally rich in the diosgenin
steroid. Steroids serve to build up the body’s own progesterone in the
human organism. Progesterone is an important ingredient of hormone balance for
both men and women. This sexual hormone is of particular importance during the
female menstrual cycle as well as during pregnancy.
Due to its contents the wild Mexican yam is highly valued by many more mature
women.
Each vegetarian capsule contains 500 mg of yam root extract.
